MQuestion From Megan

Hi Saranghae,

I recently purchased several of your new products. I also read your recent email that addressed how to properly use your new products in conjunction with you 5 step system.

It was helpful but there were a few things I felt it didn’t quite cover and left me unsure about. Hopefully you can help me understand my lingering concerns.

Does the snail serum replace your other serum in the 5 step system? Or should I continue to use that one as well?  Or should I alternate them?  If using both is your recommendation does it matter which one I use first?

Is the 2% AHA/BHA a replacement for the toner? Should I not use the toner on days I use the 2% AHA/BHA? If it’s fine to use them both, which one do you recommend using first?

How often should I use the facial brush?

I look forward to hearing back from you on these 3 concerns.

Saranghae Recommendation

Hi Megan,

Those are great questions, let's get to them right away.

Skin care routines are not written in stone meaning that how you use your products will differ slightly from another customer because of course we're all different AND we have different lifestyles. In the end, the best thing to do is try different combinations to see what works best for you.

However, here's some information that may shed some light on where you want to start.

1) Saranghae Calm & Glow Snail Mucin Serum 96

The ingredients differ for all of our serums. You'll notice that the Deep Radiance is a bit lighter and will "liquify" as you apply. It's built to absorb and penetrate, that's why that serum doesn't seem to moisturize all that much. The snail serum is a bit thicker and it doesn't penetrate our outer layers as well but it sits better on the skin and gives you a wonderful, very "Korean beauty" like glow.

My suggestion is to apply the Deep Radiance Serum first and then apply the Snail Mucin - for your night routine. During the day - perhaps just one of them, try alternating between those two and then decide for yourself after a few weeks of trying them.

Personally - I stack my serums at night (so both serum and snail serum) and only go with my Orora Bioactive Collagen Serum during the day (cream after of course), because I also apply our sunscreen. So I'm looking for fewer layers and lighter consistency during the day.

2) Saranghae 2% AHA | BHA Pore Minimizing Exfoliant

I've seen a lot of documentation saying you should cleanse + TONE + 2% AHA/BHA - but I think that's a bit redundant. They do slightly different things and there's nothing wrong with applying the toner + 2% AHA/BHA but if I'm going to add an extra step, I'll get more out of the routine if I add it somewhere else. Both products allow your skin to rebalance from caustic to slightly acidic ( optimal skin pH is between 4.7 to 5.4) ) BUT the 2% AHA/BHA is a basically chemical peel and can be hard on your skin if you use them too often.

So, my recommendation is to alternate between toner and 2% AHA/BHA for night routine only. Only the toner for the day routine because 2% AHA/BHA will make your skin sensitive to sunlight. I highly recommend using a cotton pad to wipe and leave on (don't wash them off). They both help absorb subsequent skincare products if you leave them on. This is also how I use my toner / 2% AHA/BHA.

Lastly, you should be fine to use 2% AHA/BHA every night, but it'll take about 60 days for your skin to be resilient enough to handle it.

3) Saranghae Pore Exfolating Facial Brush

I use mine every night - mostly the soft thistle side. I see differing sides on this because exfoliation is by nature inflammatory so in theory you should only exfoliate intermittently, but our brush is so soft it doesn't cause any abrasion at all.

By the way, the key to all great skin is basically exfoliation balanced with skin healing/anti-inflammation (Snail mucin). Exfoliation is necessary to bring new and healthy skin to life quicker but without the healing part, it causes your skin to dry out quickly and degrades the function of your skin barrier (which can lead to breakouts, eczema, itchy skin etc..).

I believe you will be in for a big and pleasant surprise at how well this new routine works.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

My warmest Regards
