Saranghae Feature Ingredients In-Depth
Let's go deep into the science of skincare!
The ascendance of Korean Beauty (K-Beauty) transcends the pursuit of "glass skin"; it represents a fundamental shift in how cosmetic ingredients are sourced, processed, and marketed.
Modern K-beauty brands like Saranghae exist in the intersection of three key skincare philosophies:
1) Prevention and promotion of overall skin health
2) Fortification of skin barrier resilience
3) Strategic merging of key actives and correctives with traditional eastern medicine
Saranghae, which means I love you in Korean, along with our sister brand Orora Skin Science has been described as the premier "High-Tech Heritage” Korean skincare brand.
The key ingredients that power our formulations intersect traditional with modern skin care science.

Snail Mucin (snail slime)
Snail Mucin is the fancy name for the “slime” produced by the garden snail (Helix Aspersa Muller). It's what the snail uses to protect its soft body from damage, sun, and germs. In skincare, it's a jack-of-all-trades regenerative ingredient that moisturizes, gently exfoliates, and fixes damage all at once. In Korea is it called “nature’s greatest healer” and is still the most popular skincare ingredient.
Once considered an “odd” ingredient, it is now the global standard for barrier recovery and post-procedure healing. It drives accelerated wound healing, moisture retention and extracellular matrix support by inhibiting enzymes that break down collagen.
Key Compounds (found naturally in snail mucin)
allantoin, glycolic acid, glycosaminoglycans (GAG, ex. Hyaluronic acid), copper peptides, proteolytic enzymes, antimicrobial peptides (natural defense against acne causing bacteria)
Key Functions
brightening, skin healing, energizing, hydrating
Snail mucin is featured in:
Saranghae Calm & Glow Snail Mucin Serum

Adaptogenic Mushooms (Reishi, Chaga, Sang Hwang)
Adaptogenic mushrooms are functional fungi that help the skin maintain homeostasis. Unlike standard hydrating ingredients, adaptogens work by "reading" the skin’s needs, soothing inflammation when the skin is stressed and boosting resilience when it’s exposed to environmental aggressors.
Topical adaptogens primarily target the Skin-Brain Axis. When the skin is stressed, it releases cortisol. High cortisol levels break down collagen and trigger oil production. The adaptogenic mushrooms regulate cortisol, provide antioxidant defense and stimulate ceramide production to reinforce our skin barrier.
Key Compounds (found naturally in snail mucin)
triterpepes, beta-glucans and polysaccarides
Key Functions
skin homeostasis (balancing), brightening, healing, energizing, hydrating, calming, repairing skin barrier
Adaptogenic mushrooms are featured in:
Saranghae Firm & Lift Regeneration Cream with Adaptogenic Mushrooms Chaga, Reishi, Sang Hwang
Saranghae Deep Radiance Essence + Serum with Adaptogenic Mushrooms Reishi, Chaga, Sang Hwang
Saranghae Focus Renewal Eye Cream with Adaptogenic Mushrooms Chaga, Reishi, Sang Hwang

Centella Asiatica (Cica)
Centella Asiatica, also called "Tiger Grass," is a perennial herb that grows in Asian wetlands. It has a long history of being great for healing cuts and calming ongoing skin issues. When applied to the skin, it works like a natural regulator, stopping inflammation while also boosting the creation of Type I and Type III collagen.
Korean legends say that it earned the name "Tiger Grass" because wounded tigers in the wild were observed rolling in the plant to heal their battle scars. Today, Cica is way more than just a simple herb. It's now the most-studied plant for tackling "Skin Burnout" and "Inflammaging."
Key Compounds (found naturally in snail mucin)
asiaticoside, aadecassoside, asiatic acid, madecassic acid
Key Functions
collagen synthesis, soothe inflammation, plump skin, cellular repair
Centella asiatica features in:
Saranghae Perfect Balance Toning Essence

Sh-polypepide-121, copper tripeptide-1, acetyl hexapeptide-8, palmitoyle pentapeptide-4
Peptides are the foundational building blocks of proteins like collagen, elastin, and keratin. Topically, they function as biological signaling molecules. They trick the skin into thinking it has lost collagen, triggering a natural repair response. In general, peptides fall into 4 pillars based on their function. Signal, Carrier, Enzyme-Inhibitor, and Neurotransmitter.
Today, we’ve advanced peptides into the era of Bio-mimes. Think of these as tiny protein chains, like "cell phone messages," that tell your skin exactly what to do (ex. make more elastin or "chill out those muscles").
Why are they so useful?
Peptides are the "diplomats" of the skincare world. Unlike Retinol or Acids, they are not aggressive.
They don't cause peeling, redness, or sun sensitivity. They work for all skin types, including very sensitive skin or people who are pregnant. You can mix them with almost anything. In fact, they make your Retinol work better by keeping the skin strong and calm.
The downside is that they’re not meant to produce immediate visible effects. It takes consistency and time to see benefits with peptides. But the evidence behind advanced peptides are absolutely solid.
In the past, peptides were hard for the skin to absorb, so the compound would simply sit on top of the skin. Modern Peptides use "Drone Technology" or fatty acid coatings to help them slip past the skin’s surface and reach the deeper layers where collagen is made.
Peptides are features in:
Orora Bioactive Collagen Serum
Orora Bioactive Collagen Cream
Orora Advanced Lip Repair Serum

Retinaldehyde (retinal)
Retinaldehyde (Retinal) is a potent precursor to retinoic acid, representing the penultimate step in the vitamin A metabolic pathway. At a concentration of 0.1%, it serves as one of the most effective over-the-counter (OTC) retinoids available while minimizing skin irritation.
The biggest advantage of retinal compared to traditional retinol is the number of steps it takes to convert to retinoic acid. To work its magic, every Vitamin A (also called retinoids) product you put on your skin has to convert into Retinoic Acid. The closer it is to that final form, the faster you see results.
While retinol takes two steps to get there, retinaldehyde takes only one step. Because retinal is only one conversion away from the active form, Retinal is roughly 20x times faster at working than traditional retinol. It’s like taking an express train instead of the local one.
How does it compare to presecription Tretinoin? The beauty of 0.1% Retinal is its "controlled release." Your skin only converts the Retinal into active acid as it needs it. This gives you many of the same anti-aging perks as a prescription but with much less redness, peeling, and stinging and the unwanted long term side effects that may come with tretinoin.
What does 0.1% retinal do for your skin?
While 0.1% sounds like a small number, in the world of Retinal, it is considered a clinical “high strength” dose. Here is what it does for your skin:
Erases Fine Lines: It tells your skin to produce more collagen, which "plumps" out wrinkles from the inside.
Clears Breakouts: Unlike other retinoids, Retinal actually has antibacterial properties. It helps kill the bacteria that cause acne while keeping pores clear.
Helps Fades Dark Spots: It speeds up cell turnover, meaning old, pigmented skin cells are shed faster to reveal brighter, even-toned skin.
Smooths Texture: It helps refine "orange peel" skin texture and minimizes the appearance of pores.

Saranghae 0.1% Retainl + 2% Squalane Serum

25% Pure Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)
L-Ascorbic Acid (LAA) is the purest and most active form of Vitamin C. Unlike Vitamin C "derivatives" (which have to be converted by the skin), L-Ascorbic Acid is ready to go the moment it touches your face. At 25% concentration, it is one of the highest levels you can find without a prescription.
Most clinical studies show that Vitamin C is effective starting at 10%. However, pushing that number up to 25% offers specific "heavy-duty" benefits:
Extreme Brightening: It is a master at blocking the enzyme (tyrosinase) that creates dark spots. At 25%, it can fade stubborn sun damage and "post-acne" marks that lower percentages might struggle with.
The Collagen Boost: Vitamin C is a mandatory "co-factor" for building collagen. It tells your skin cells to produce more structural support, which keeps your skin firm and bouncy.
The Ultimate Shield: It neutralizes "free radicals" (microscopic damage from pollution and the sun). A 25% dose provides a massive reservoir of antioxidants to protect you throughout the day.
Stability vs. Efficacy
While pure ascorbic acid is naturally a white to off-white crystalline powder, a distinct orange color typically indicates that the product has oxidized, which ironically reduces its potency rather than enhancing it.
But vitamin C science is far more nuanced.
If we look at the core comparison of efficacy, pure, active L-ascorbic acid remains the gold standard in skincare and nutrition compared to synthetic vitamin C derivatives (such as magnesium ascorbyl phosphate or ascorbyl palmitate). This is because the body and skin can utilize L-ascorbic acid immediately without any metabolic conversion. Derivatives, though significantly more stable and resistant to turning orange or degrading in the presence of light and air, must first be enzymatically converted into pure ascorbic acid by the body to become biologically active.
This conversion process is highly inefficient, meaning that an orange colored pure ascorbic acid delivers greater potent biological impact and superior antioxidant performance than a completely stable but biologically sluggish derivative.

Pillar 4: Healing & Anti-Inflammation
cytokine regulation | calming the skin
Daily stress, pollution, and harsh weather can make your skin "angry" and irritated, which is a major cause of aging.
In addition, cleansing, exfoliating and correcting are by nature inflammatory and to de-stress our skin, we need to bring that inflammation and achieve skin homeostatis.
This pillar is the yin to the yang. It uses natural ingredients to soothe irritation and redness, moving your skin out of "survival mode" and into "repair mode" so it can heal itself properly.
Products:
1) Orora Bioactive Collagen Serum with Sh-polypeptide-121
2) Saranghae Deep Radiance Essence + Serum with Adaptogenic Mushrooms Reishi, Chaga, Sang Hwang
3) Saranghae Calm & Glow Snail Mucin Serum 96

Pillar 5: Moisturize, Seal & Protect
transepidermal water loss (TEWL) mitigation | locking it all in
The final pillar is like putting a protective shield over your face. It pulls moisture into your skin to keep it plump and then creates a seal to make sure that hydration and all the good ingredients from the previous steps can’t evaporate.
This step helps heal your skin barrier, keeps your skin hydrated all day and protects it from the outside world.
