So Sheer You're Practically Naked!
A sunscreen with SPF30 will protect up to 96.5% of UVB rays while an SPF50 will protect up to about 98.5% of UVB rays.
Although an SPF30 does not protect as well as an SPF50, many consumers choose to wear SPF30 because of texture and feel: the higher the SPF number, the greater the weight of the sunscreen with more streaking. This problem was the main challenge Saranghae wanted to overcome with our newest SPF50 formulation, and we succeeded spectacularly.
The Saranghae Let’s Get Physical Sheer UV Defense Sunscreen with SPF50 is so light and sheer that it feels better than an SPF 30.
No streaks, no chalky white residue, feels so sheer you’re practically naked!
Physical vs. Chemical
What is the best choice for you?
The are two main types of sunscreen: PHYSICAL and CHEMICAL.
Although both types of UV protection help protect our skin from UV rays, there are benefits and drawbacks that we need to consider.
Chemical sunscreens use synthetic ingredients that absorb into our skin and transform UV rays into heat. They were especially popular in the early 2000s because it was unnoticeable and felt light on our skin.
The drawbacks are many and can be considered serious.
UV filter ingredients like oxybenzone, homosalate, and octocrylene are absorbed by our body through the skin and are toxic with a high enough concentration.
The EU considers concentrations of 2.2% as the limit for safe exposure while the US legally allows brands to go up as high as 15%. Over 90% of SPF products in the US far exceed the European Commission’s recommendations.
- Helps protect against UVA and UVA rays
- Needs time to absorb to be effective (about 30 minutes before exposure to sunlight)
- Typically more water and sweat resistent
Physical, also called mineral sunscreen sits on top of our skin. Active sunscreen minerals like zinc oxide have a larger molecular weight so it does not get absorbed by our skin. Think of it like a protective layer over the skin.
This is a huge benefit because most of us do not want sunscreen leaching into our bodies through our skin.
The drawback is that most physical sunscreens have a white or off-white hue on our skin and may leave a chalk-like streak on our skin. Typically, higher the SPF number, the greater the chalky effect. That is not the case for more technologically advanced formulas like our Saranghae Let’s Get Physical Sheer UV Defense Sunscreen with SPF50.
Our formula is purpose made ultra-sheer to avoid that streaky / chalky effect.
- Protects against UVA & UVB rays
- Protects as soon as it’s applied, no need to wait before exposing to sunlight
- Typically more comfortable for all skin types and conditions - especially sensitive skin
Why We Chose Physical: Our 5 Year Journey!
At Saranghae, we started development on our SPF formulation in 2018 with the intent of offering a chemical based SPF formula.
Throught the process, we were met with constant roadblocks that forced us to choose between speed to market vs. quality of product.
A case in point is that there are too many differences in regulatory standards for US vs. Asia vs EU. We also discovered that published research behind chemical SPF ingredients conflicted with one another. It was clear to us that these compromises were taking us further away from our original vision.
We believe that the best SPF product is the one that you are most comfortable with and one that you'll use again and again.
But the research was clear to us. We felt that overall, a physical sunscreen was much more effective and safer for our customers. It's so effective and safe that we apply our SPF50 on our own children.
After three years of wrok, we decided to pivot and pursue a physical formulation based on zinc oxide. Fast forward two more years, and we are proud to offer you the Saranghae Let’s Get Physical Sheer UV Defense Sunscreen with SPF50 with 12% Zinc Oxide!
How Do We Best Incoporate Into a Foundational Skincare Routine?
An effective skincare routine is personal. Some desire a simple three step routine while others require six. There is no set rule, and it’s completely up to you.
One thing to keep in mind is that there are no “miracle" products, and a good foundational skincare regimen will always be more effective than relying on one hero serum or cream.
Typically we recommend our SPF50 sunscreen as the final step of an effective day time skincare routine.
Let’s Get Physical Sheer UV Defense Sunscreen with SPF50 is more than just a sunscreen. With high quality anti-aging and skin conditioning ingredients, it leads a new generation of high performance and ultra-sheer sun care.

Our Customers Say
Skin type: Dry
Age range: 34 to 43
Skin concerns: fine lines, flaky skin, easy to burn
A very, very nice sunscreen
It's so light I don't even know I'm wearing it. Leaves no streaks and no chalky white stuff either. Super hydrating too.
Couple of days I went with just the toner and sunscreen and I was fine, skin was soft and moisturized.”
Skin type: Combination / Sensitive
Age range: 19 to 24
Skin concerns: acne scarring, prone to acne breakouts
This is now my favorite sunscreen hands down. If you have a light to medium complexion (variety of undertones), this will work wonderfully for you. I find that although it's unscented, it still does have a sunscreen scent to it that disappears once applied to the skin. This is very light and feels like almost nothing on your skin and the tint is very light as well but does a wonderful job at sheering out imperfections on the skin. This has also worked wonderfully with my other skincare products and under makeup. I don't like to wear sunscreen unless I asbolutely need to but I found myself wearing this one everyday out of habit. It's so ligth and sheer it's just really easy to wear it all day. Highly recommended, another great product from a brand I've come to trust over the years.
Skin type: Normal
Age range: 29 to 34
Skin concerns: dullness of skin, sunspots, discoloration
I showed by dermotogist this product and she absolutely gave it two thumbs up. It's the cleanest formula for an SPF she's come across yet. Very easy to apply and cover.
Has a sheer tint so no change in skin color and of course highly effecitve as a sunblock. I played beach volleyball with it for 4 hours with no streaking and no sunscreen getting into my eyes. Absolutely love this sunscreen.
