What does SPF mean & does SPF50 really make a difference?
The number after SPF (for example, SPF50), measures how much longer that sunscreen will protect your skin.
For example, if your skin burns in 10 minutes, an SPF50 will protect your skin for 500 minutes whereas an SPF30 will protect for 300 minutes.
So why would anyone choose an SPF30 over an SPF50?
Traditionally, it's been because of weight. In the past SPF50 sunscreens would apply heavier and feel greasy. They were also more expensive. But that is no longer true. The Saranghae Let's Get Physical SPF50 sunscreen applies lighter and more sheer than most SPF30 sunscreens and the pricing is comparable.
No streaks, no chalky white residue and extremely sheer but with full SPF50 UVA & UVB protection.

Physical vs. Chemical
What is the best choice for you?
The are two main types of sunscreen: PHYSICAL and CHEMICAL.
Although both types of UV protection help protect our skin from UV rays we always recommend 100% physical sunscreens. Why? Well glad you asked..

Chemical Sunscreen
Chemical sunscreens use synthetic ingredients that absorb into our skin and transform UV rays into heat. They were especially popular in the early 2000s because the sunscreen felt unnoticeable and light on our skin.
But they have serious potential health hazards and you should know what they are.
UV filter ingredients like oxybenzone, homosalate, and octocrylene are absorbed by our body through the skin and are toxic with a high enough concentration.
The EU considers concentrations of 2.2% as the limit for safe exposure while the US legally allows brands to go up as high as 15%. Over 90% of SPF products in the US far exceed the European Commission’s recommendations which means that if you purchase and apply a chemical sunscreen in the US you are applying unsafe and toxi amounts of chemicals.
In February of 2019 the FDA published a paper that states that all FDA approved chemical active ingredients used in the US today as a sunscreen are classified as "Insufficient data for use in sunscreens".

Physical Sunscreen
Physical, also called mineral sunscreen sits on top of our skin. Active sunscreen minerals like zinc oxide have a larger molecular weight so it does not get absorbed by our skin. Think of it like a protective layer over the skin.
This is a huge benefit because most of us do not want sunscreen leaching into our bodies through our skin.
The drawback is that most physical sunscreens above SPF30 have a white or off-white hue on our skin and may leave a chalk-like streak on our skin.
Fortunately , that is no longer the case. Modern physical sunscreens like our Saranghae Let’s Get Physical Sheer UV Defense SPF50 Sunscreen with SPF50 offer full mineral SPF50 protection with no streaks or heavy residue.
Lastly, look for 100% zinc oxide as opposed to zinc oxide + titanium dioxide. Titanium dioxide is now banned in Europe due to risks of DNA damange and immune system toxicity.
It took Us 5 Years: Some Shocking Truths!
We started development on our SPF formulation in 2018 with the intent of offering a chemical based SPF formula.
Throughout the process, we were met with constant roadblocks that forced us to choose between speed to market vs. quality of product.
A case in point is that there are too many differences in regulatory standards for US vs. Asia vs EU. We also discovered that published research behind chemical SPF ingredients conflicted with one another. It was clear to us that these compromises were taking us further away from our original vision.
Of course, the best SPF product is the one that you are most comfortable with and one that you'll use again and again but the reseach was clear to us: Chemical filter sunscreens can lead to a build up toxic chemicals in our body.
We strongly felt that a physical sunscreen (non-nano) was much more effective and safer for our customers.
It is so effective and safe (completely reef safe) that we apply our SPF50 on our own children.
After three years of work, we decided to pivot and pursue a physical formulation based on zinc oxide. Fast forward two more years, and we are proud to offer you the Saranghae Let’s Get Physical Sheer UV Defense Sunscreen with SPF50 with 12% Zinc Oxide!

How Do We Best Incoporate Into a Foundational Skincare Routine?
An effective skincare routine is personal. Some desire a simple three step routine while others require six. There is no set rule, and it’s completely up to you.
One thing to keep in mind is that there are no “miracle" products, and a good foundational skincare regimen will always be more effective than relying on one hero serum or cream.
Typically we recommend our SPF50 sunscreen as the final step of an effective day time skincare routine.

A very, very nice sunscreen
It's so light I don't even know I'm wearing it. Leaves no streaks and no chalky white stuff either. Super hydrating too.
Couple of days I went with just the toner and sunscreen and I was fine, skin was soft and moisturized.”

This is now my favorite sunscreen hands down. If you have a light to medium complexion (variety of undertones), this will work wonderfully for you. I find that although it's unscented, it still does have a sunscreen scent to it that disappears once applied to the skin. This is very light and feels like almost nothing on your skin and the tint is very light as well but does a wonderful job at sheering out imperfections on the skin. This has also worked wonderfully with my other skincare products and under makeup. I don't like to wear sunscreen unless I asbolutely need to but I found myself wearing this one everyday out of habit. It's so ligth and sheer it's just really easy to wear it all day. Highly recommended, another great product from a brand I've come to trust over the years.

Excellent product.
I showed by dermotogist this product and she absolutely gave it two thumbs up. It's the cleanest formula for an SPF she's come across yet. Very easy to apply and cover.
Has a sheer tint so no change in skin color and of course highly effecitve as a sunblock. I played beach volleyball with it for 4 hours with no streaking and no sunscreen getting into my eyes. Absolutely love this sunscreen.
