25% Pure Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)

This high concentration of Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that brightens the skin by inhibiting melanin production, the pigment responsible for dark spots.

Vitamin C also neutralizes free radicals, preventing further hyperpigmentation caused by environmental stressors like UV exposure.

10% Glycinated Azelaic Acid

GAA is currently considered to be one of the most effective ingredients for treating hyperpigmentation.  It inhibits the enzyme tyrosinase from signaling our melanocytes to make more melanin, essentially stopping dark spots before they form.

GAA is that rare compound that is multi-functional. It also reduces breakouts by limiting bacterial proliferation.  It helps normalize the shedding of skin cells, preventing buildup inside pores.  The glycinated form enhances this exfoliating effect without making skin feel stripped which is ideal for people who get regular congestion or whiteheads.

Lastly, it is the single most effective compound for treating rosacea.  It helps inhibit excess vascular activity and reduces reactive redness over time.  Rosacea often involves an imbalance of skin microbes (including overgrowth of Demodex mites in some cases).  GAA offers antimicrobial action that helps restore a healthier skin environment, without harshness or disruption.

2% Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)

Niacinamide is an anti-inflammatory that reduces redness and calms the skin, making it effective for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It also minimizes the transfer of pigment within skin cells, promoting a more even skin tone and helping with dark spots.

1% Tranexamic Acid

Tranexamic acid is well-known for reducing the appearance of hyperpigmentation, particularly from sun damage or melasma. It is derived from the amino acid lysine, and it works by inhibiting the transfer of pigment-producing cells (melanocytes) to the upper layers of the skin, which gradually lightens dark spots.  Dermatologists are now prescribing tranexamic acid over hydroquinone for its efficacy and safety.

1% Alpha Arbutin

Alpha Arbutin is a derivative of hydroquinone but a much safer option due to it's chemical structure and slow release characteristics.

It acts as a potent tyrosinase inhibitor, meaning it slows down the enzyme responsible for producing melanin (the pigment that causes dark spots). Derived from the bearberry plant, it works by slowly releasing hydroquinone into the skin, effectively fading acne scars, sun spots, and melasma without the high risk of irritation, sensitivity, or paradoxical darkening often associated with pure hydroquinone. Because it safely suppresses pigment production at the cellular level rather than aggressively bleaching the skin, it is gentle enough for daily use and exceptionally safe for all skin types and tones.
