Our Story
'Sa - Rang - Hae' means 'I love you' in Korean.
We are a Korean Beauty company that marries ancient Asian medicinal philosophies with modern anti-aging science. Our journey started when our spiritual founder Myeong-Jo Lee originally wanted to create a skin cream to help her sister heal from burn scars. After 2 years of trials, Myeong-Jo found that not only did her formulation help heal scarring, it reduced wrinkles, and improved skin firmness and resiliency.
In 2016 her son and current CEO Peter Lee together with his wife Andrea Mourad created the brand Saranghae with the dream of sharing his mother's creations with the world. His desire to share the very best of his mother's work and Korean culture is the driving force behind Saranghae's passion.

The Magic Mushroom
The Sang Hwang mushroom, AKA Black Hoof or Phellinus Linteus mushroom in the US, is a black-yellowish, bitter-tasting mushroom that grows on mulberry trees. In Korea, it has been used to heal various ailments like migraines and skin abrasions for over 600 years. The royal family of Korea had a well-known habit of drinking Sang Hwang Mushroom tea every morning to preserve health and longevity.
In 2008, 4 researchers from the Methodist Research Institute, Cancer Research Laboratory observed that polysaccharide-protein complexes found in the mushroom demonstrated unusually high antioxidant and immunomodulating properties. In other words, the mushroom is an exceptional anti-inflammatory that's great at suppressing free radicals & oxidative stress - the stuff that prevents healing, destroys our collagen, starves our skin cells of nutrients, and creates wrinkles. Research is ongoing but shows great promise.

It sounds like your skin may be showing signs of physical change brought on by hormonal fluctuations. The cause could be something simple like dietary changes or something more substantial like menopause. The best way to improve overall hydration and skin resilience is to improve your overall skin health.

I’ve been a VIP member for years. I love your products and recommend it to everyone I talk to about my skin. I’m curious about retinol, something that you don’t offer in your products (YET) but seems to come up all time when the topic of skincare comes up.
Can you explain it for me? Why is it that Saranghae doesn’t offer retinol? Should I be using it?

Retinol as a chemical compound was first discovered in 1909 but wasn’t made available for anti-aging purposes until 1947. Since then, the popularity of retinol has experienced waves of highs and lows until today where it is considered an “in vogue” ingredient.
Topical retinol (Vitamin A) is used to aid in skin cell turnover, boost low levels of collagen production and said to be responsible for minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reducing hyperpigmenation and smoothing out texture.
